Having a strong and beautiful set of teeth is a dream of many people. However, tooth decay is a common disease in both children and adults. What are causes of tooth decay? How can tooth decay harm you? How to treat tooth decay effectively? Those questions attract much attention. You can find the answers now.
1. Bad effects of tooth decay
Tooth decay makes patients feel very uncomfortable because it can cause some other common diseases:
- Teeth and brain have a very close relation to each other so pains caused by tooth decay can cause headache even severe headache and prevent patients from studying or working.
- One of the most common diseases relating to teeth and mouth is bad breath. And bad breath can be caused by tooth decay. Bad breath can cause uncomfortable feelings in communication and prevent patients from gaining success.
- Pains in teeth may make patients lose appetite leading to weight loss and nutritional deficiency. It is the turn of lacking of nutrient substances and vitamins to cause other dangerous diseases like hair loss, anemia, depression, etc.
2. Cause of tooth decay
There are many causes of tooth decay. The following is the most common ones:
- Heredity factors are much potential reasons causing tooth decay.
- Saliva can make tooth decay spread so kissing the patient also may make you have this disease.
- Do not have the good habit of brushing teeth after meals and before going to bed. Foods that attach on teeth for a long time will create bacteria that can cause tooth decay and bad breath.
- Using unsuitable toothpaste is one of the reasons. This reason often occurs in children. Kids' teeth and mouth are very sensitive so children should use special types for them. Those toothpastes are gentler and not harmful to kids' teeth and mouth.
- Children usually like eating candies or chocolate at night and this is also a reason causing tooth decay.
3. Treatment for tooth decay
- Sleeping time usually lasts for 6-8 hours that is quite long. This time is long enough for bacterium created from pieces of foods attached on teeth to damage the enamel and cause tooth decay. Therefore, do not forget to brush your teeth after meals and before going to bed!
- In order to reduce risks of having tooth decay more effectively, you should also combine brushing your teeth with using mouthwash. Now there are many types of mouthwashes sold on the market that can help you much in exterminating bacterium in your mouth. You should study carefully or ask advices from specialists or doctors to find a suitable one.
However, brushing teeth too many times a day is also not good because the toothpaste can harm the enamel.
- Once you find signs of tooth decay, you should immediately go to the dentist to have reasonable and effectively treatment such as extracting. The sooner the disease is treated, the more effective the treatment will be.
