Surely we must all be getting sick of seeing the same calendars appear year after year? After all, there are only so many times that we can think that Waterskiing Westies are the most amazing animals on the face of the Earth. Besides, what good are these calendars anyway? They don't remind you of the things you forget annually- such as the big family BBQs that have been around since the year dot which is always on the third Sunday in July. Then there's the thing we all do, despite being reminded of it the day after it happened the year before, despite being reminded of it every day since then, the one thing that gets you labelled as the worst person in the history of the world; forgetting someone's birthday.
The introduction of digital cameras means that very few people print their photos anymore; instead they leave them on their computer for months, even years, without being looked at. The only motivation to scroll through the hoards of photos comes when your computer beeps telling you that the memory is full so you need to trawl through them to choose which ones stay and which ones go. Since when did reliving our memories become such a chore? Using photo calendars means that we can display our photos while putting them to good use.
You can use photo calendars as reminders for people's birthdays or big annual events; for instance using a photo of a friend on the month of their birthday will ensure that you remember it's in that month or a photo of your entire family together can signify when a yearly get together is. As amateur photography is becoming an increasingly popular hobby, you can display your work in a subtle and creative way through photo calendars, perhaps by using photographs you've taken in different seasons and applying them to certain months.
It seems that the use of the calendar is dying out, there was a time when we'd scrawl all of our appointments on the calendar in the kitchen and keep track of them. Now, more often than not, we're relying solely on our memory to tell us when that important meeting is and we only really have a calendar up for show; even though it's either from last year or you always forget to change the month. It would appear that because photo calendars can be made to be so personal, they make the perfect present and the most useful way to display your photographs.
