This year to start poetry month of with a bang, try sending a poem out to friends in a free e-card. This way you can demonstrate your poetry skills for free, in an e-card, and impress all your friends. Free e-cards are gradually taking over the card market, and I believe it is down to how easy it is to use them, and because they're free.

You can include any message you wish, and in this case a poem. Free e-cards come in all sorts of different categories, so you'll certainly be able to find the right theme for your poem.

Though as an art form, poetry can hardly be caged into definitive parameters, it is loosely defined as the art of rhythmical composition, written or spoken, or literary work in metrical form, that is, verse.

Something called poetic may elicit the perception of beauty or the lack thereof, powerful content, and emotional significance. The realm of poetry is so conducive to the intense exploration of emotion, desire, theories, the so-called human dilemma, and forming linguistic and rhythmic patterns, whether the words rhyme or not, that it is arguably the most versatile use of language.

The social, political, humanitarian, and artistic statements penned and delivered by poets throughout history continue to not only shape the art form, but also broach new philosophical territory and influence history in many different contexts.

To commemorate the significance of poetry and its ability to motivate people both in action and in the consideration of new ideas, April is annually designated National Poetry Month by the Academy of American Poets.

Poetry as a literary art may seem unattainable to the masses, however it is by no means exclusive to high-browed subject matter or complicated style. Nursery rhymes, impromptu songs, spoken word performances, whether composed of nonsense or million-dollar words, are all highly accessible forms of poetry.

Delve into the rhythm of speech and discover a world of language that can open your eyes to the richness of the spoken and written word.

Attend an open mike night, check your local newspaper arts and entertainment listings for poetry readings, discussions, appearances, and new publications. Have some friends get together for a slam session in which you each perform your work and critique one another.

Spend some time at the library or a bookstore and check out the poetry section. Perhaps Shakespeare, Keats, or Wordsworth do not suit your style, in which case the work of Dr. Seuss or Shel Silverstein may be more to your liking. And if the inspiration to write your own poetry strikes you, National Poetry Month is just the time to get started!

Millions of free e-cards are sent out each year. So to make someone's poetry month that bit more special this year, try sending them a free e-card that contains a poem of your choice. Heck it could even be one you composed yourself. The best bit is you can send them to anywhere in the world, from anywhere. This way no-one needs to be left out.
