Many educators use government buildings to teach history lessons. Some teachers are lucky enough to be able to grant students a virtual tour of the artwork that hangs in the White House during class time. Through benefactors, many students have the proper tools to see and learn since computers systems and internet access were introduced to the school systems.

* The virtual tours of art will take online viewers throughout the White House. The close up, panoramic views allow school age children the opportunity to form a historical perspective of the life and times of their ancestors. Each room in the White House is open for a 360-degree preview. The art on the walls is but one part of art that the visitors can view. There is also rich marble and an abundance of antiques from different periods of our past.

* Many people might wonder what type of art hangs in the rooms where vital decisions about our country are made each day. Some of the art is on loan from collectors around the world and others belong to the American people outright even if European Masters created them. As with any art form, there are copyright issues involved, but visitors to the White House, online or in person can order copies of these works of art at any time.

* In the White House art collection, there is a complete summation of every President and First Lady. Visitors will never tire of the differences in dress throughout the centuries or the noble stances that some Presidents took when they were painted. Many of these paintings serve as an inspiration to others that our country is good, strong hands. Many First Ladies have taken an active role in obtaining art to add to the White House art collection.

* A curator and staff take meticulous care to preserve the art history of our country. All paintings and artifacts located at the White are carefully cataloged for posterity and are also cleaned and preserved on a regular schedule. The Office of the Curator was formed in 1961. The responsibilities of the staff are numerous and they take an active role in locating works of art to add to the White House collection.

Some people might wonder about the views of each room in the White House. The White House is not only the home to the President of the United States, but it is also a museum. Congress created an act in 1961 that states, made objects belonging to the White House part of its permanent collections and designated the museum character of the State Rooms. This explains why the White House is decorated with art that has an air of being in a museum.

The art in the White House is considered "Nation's Pride." Online visitors can get a taste of beautiful landscapes, as well as famous people from the past and subjects that come alive in our history books. These selected works of art are but a mere representation of our past. History occurs everyday, and as one President replaces another, we are assured that there will be two more works of art added to the White House art collection.

  • Why Folk Art Is So Popular Today

I have loved folk art paintings since I was a child. I spent a lot of time with my grandmother and her house was full of them. One of my favorites that she had was done by John Roeder. Maybe it's because I spent a lot of time playing in my tree house, that the trees in the picture appealed to me so much.
