Many times it will occur so unexpectedly, no matter how great we care for our lawns. Everyone can be visited by sewage issues. This is for sure one kind of water damage you do not ever want to mess with. It is likely to be the nastiest, most toxic ordeal you might ever have to deal with.
Sewage comes up in the best of yards if a pipe suddenly burst or comes apart at a juncture. This can be because of sewage back up, a tree root, or because of the wear of an old line. If you have a large yard you might not discover it quickly, but it will not likely be long until you smell the problem.
Sewage repair and clean up may get somewhat costly and the sooner it is handled the better. The first thing you should do is telephone your insurance company. They might send someone to see you or advise you over the phone what to do next. In the majority of these problems you will have to engage someone experienced to repair the problem. In the meantime, keep children and pets well away from the contaminated area. Do not come in contact with any of the unsanitary spots yourself. Before you hire someone to fix the sewage issues in your yard, get estimates from a number of well established sewer repair companies that have good service records. Always be sure when you get someone to do the job that both parties know what the repair and clean up will includes, how much you will have to spend, and how long the job should take to be done. Put it in writing and do not give them all the payment until the task has been completed to your satisfaction. Being licensed and insured is necessary for anyone you employ.
Fixing any damaged sewer lines is an important part of the job, but the clean up of the very toxic waste is just as essential. Be positive this area of the job is done and meets any local ordinances that may be involved dealing with sewage clean up. If your sewage situation was due to the city sewage system, they can be responsible for the repair.
