With the growing trend that has developed in recent years, many people are choosing to install natural stone in their homes in many different areas. It can be purchased in irregular pieces that can be less expensive, or in tiles.

Buying large slabs of natural stone is usually always expensive. Slabs are used when you want to cover a surface with an uninterrupted stone, this means no seams.

Countertops are one of the most popular, but not the only surfaces that people use these slabs for. Steps leading up to and around a bathtub or shower are common places too.

Many people who want to surround their fireplaces will use slabs also instead of tiles. These solid surfaces when finished with a glossy shine are very beautiful to look at unlike anything you can imagine.

It is best to do a lot of searching before you decide on what kind of slab to buy and where you want to buy it. As with most products, different businesses will carry different selections. You would hate settle for one color or pattern and later discover there are many others that you might have rather had.

Make sure that the natural stone slabs that you choose will be something you will be comfortable living with for a long time is a must. Not only are the slabs themselves expensive, but the professional installation they usually require is not cheap either.

Stone is very durable and will last for years and years with the proper care, so you do not want to tire of it for years to come either.

Acquaint your self with all the varieties that are available and which ones are best for your particular project. Many people decide on granite for countertops because of its hardness, though it is not the only good choice, and of course, marble has long been a common choice for kitchens and bathroom decor. Bathtub and shower surrounds are anything but simply beautiful when they are done with solid natural stone slabs of any type.

It is defiantly not recommended that you attempt to install slabs yourself unless you might have previous experience. They can be broken or cut wrong and destroy the stone for what you had in mind if it is not done very carefully and correctly.

Make sure if you hire someone that they are qualified as well as insured. See some of their previous work if possible.
