Each year you will probably hear about many homeowners complaining that their basements have become flooded again. If you live in an area that has many older homes, reaching at least 10 years old, you'll hear it more often then others.

When you need to get some help with a wet flooded basement you are more likely to look to others for some help. There are many areas you'll want to check first to determine how your flooded basement even came about. First place you'll look is your gutters, if they are not clean, clean them out and then you will need to check for any leaks.

Nowadays, gutters have a new innovation; well it was new a few years ago, but they have developed covers that can go over your gutters to prevent anything from getting in. Honestly, these are worth the few extra dollars than what it would cost to repair a flooded basement. After you've taken the time to clean out your gutters you'll want to check to see if water is still pooling on your foundation surrounding your home. If it is, there are some things you'll want to investigate in your foundation. One thing to check is what way your foundation inclines; it should be going outwards towards the road. If it is not, you'll want to change this right away. This could be the main cause as to why you are experiencing a flooded basement.

No matter how busy or preoccupied you are, you'll want to get working on you water damage restoration plan right away. You can't leave your basement wet for a long period of time unless you want to grow mold. Usually you'll have a flooded basement because there are cracks on your walls. This is from water getting into the cracks which causes expansion and once the water has had the time to dry, it will leave the cement with cracks allowing even more water in. Repair all cracks as quickly as possible if you want to avoid future floods.

Not all basements get flooded because of cracks on the walls though. Basements are full of pipes that lead through your house. When you have leaky pipes they tend to leak mostly into your basement leaving you with a flooded basement over time. Check your pipes often, they could change in a matter of days leaving you boot high in water trying to fix them.

Having to deal with a flooded basement is every homeowner's nightmare. If you take the time to double check every area of your home that might allow water to leak into your home regularly you could save yourself the time and energy it would take to cleanup your flooded basement. Prevention is the main key to keeping a dry basement, so clean out your gutters, seal up those cracked walls, and fix those leaky pipes before you are able to go swimming in your brand new indoor pool that you really didn't want.
