One of the great things about being a shopaholic is that you are so experienced with the retail buying industry that you know exactly which product to buy as gifts, just by taking a sneak peak at the window shop display. Where one would spend almost an entire day, week or month to find the perfect gift for their close loved ones, shopaholics know exactly what will be right just by looking at it. However, the downside is they have very little control over how much they spend and tend not to know whether the thing they have bought is actually worth the price.

Being a shopaholic myself I find it interesting that my strength lies in finding good chocolate for people rather than picking out the best attire as a gift. The best picks are the ones that advertise their products in the best possible way, with a neat presentation and organised shop display units. One way many people overlook is making sure that they try to draw customers in through the good use of their window.

Have you ever wondered why the shop display units are more appealing when they have their best items to show for, and other shops without eye-catching displays tend to be ignored? I think the answer lies in the question itself; it is the eye-catching part that draws people in. Curiosity is what makes them want to see more, as if to say 'Wow that looks great, I wonder what else they have to offer', hence the great world of advertisement and marketing.

You may not need fancy lighting, colourful posters or even cool graphics (unless of course it is a technology retailers unit), all that is needed is a clear signing of what is on offer, products available, the attractive pricing and a good range of selected products that people may be interested in buying. Display units in the shops should always be kept clean, maintained and presentable. Many people are put off by seeing things displayed in an untidy fashion, covered in dust, out of date and out of stock!

Always remember that if there is a particular product up for grabs it is always a good idea to make sure that people know you have a limited number of this item, otherwise when one is to enquire about whether you have this in stock, it will look worse for you if have run out. Most often things that are displayed on the window will be difficult to find in the shop. It is important to make sure that whatever is displayed on the window the shop display unit clearly displays the item. This is more common in clothing shops as the item on the mannequin tends not to be so readily available.

The best shop displays come from jewellery stores, as these are items which should 'sparkle' their value as well as being handled carefully. Often people underestimate the power of good product displaying, from simple basic methods. Products do not need to be arranged in a patterned, but arranged individually, so people are able to clearly what is being offered in a uniformed manner. Simple presentations are better than funky bright colours, unless of course it is within the context and theme of the shop.

It is a good idea however to be creative rather than sticking to the same style of display, so adding some sensible colour and decorative items may help with making the products stand out and look interesting. The idea is to grab people's attention, going overboard with bright tinsels and objects will make the shop look tacky and cheap. Your best bet is to stick to two or three colours, make the products stand out and refrain making it look like there is too much going on. Simplicity with a creative flair is the key.
